The American Heart Association cook book is a real winner! I love gourmet foods and eat out a lot and it is full of delicious healthful recipes that balance taste and healthiness. I have tried a few different "healthy" cookbooks and it is by far the most reliable and delicious! Who would of thought? Every time I make a recipe I am continually surprised by how good the food actually is.
It also has great resources in it about healthy eating and nutrition tables so that you can know what you are getting from what.

You have not said what government, or what country? But as a start I would check out your local government's website, or check under their education department.
Most fast food restaurants do not contain enough vegetables.In my opinion,french fries do not count as a vegetables because it is deep fat fried.Also,onto that subject chicken is great for them but when it is smothered in greasy fat from frying,it is not healthy.Also,they serve carbonated drinks,and the "juice" they serve is usually loaded with high fructose corn syrup and artifical flavorings and sweeteners.
Loads of salt and processed / preservative filled foods are not beneficial for healthy eating in adults or children.

eat a bundle of fruits and veggies. exercise 20-30 minutes a day a few days a week. toss out the junk food.

having a pie chart enhances our visual understanding i suppose. Because on a pie chart it's relatively easier to read what we should eat most of (coz its the largest portion) and what we should eat less of (coz its the smallest portion). It's also more understandable, because on the pyramid to a total idiot (sorry, lol, couldn't think of a better word) they wouldn't know that what was on the bottom we should eat the most of and what was on top we eat less of. people would just perceive it as food on different levels …
Just make sure you're getting in a healthy balanced breakfast.
Ex:
- Cup of wholegrain cearel OR 1/2 cup granola OR package of instant oatmeal
- 1/2 cup milk (added into cearel)
- Serving of fruit (Ex: 1/2 cup berries OR 1 medium fruit- banana, apple, etc.. OR 250ML juice OR 1/4 cup dried fruit
- If you want add in some nut's to you're cearel/ breakfast for the protein.
During the day try and grab an apple or some sort of fruit/ vegetable to nibble on so you don't go for the gorgy stuff.
If you're going to order pizza- stay away from the pepporonis and extra cheese. Add vegetables too it and lean meat such as grilled chicken.

Well basically just try to eat healthy, lots of fruits an veggies and proteins. But also follow your cravings just dont go overboard with them. And eat when you are hungry.
