Traveling with children during the holidays can be a challenge. You want to create a sense of holiday tradition, but at the same time you want to give them the opportunity to travel and see some new things as well. Whether your Christmas travel vacation is a one time thing, or a tradition in and of itself, make the most of it for your kids by striking a balance of old and new. Make sure you choose a destination for your vacation that offers seasonal holiday activities.
Train rides, tours of lights and visits with Santa are some of the things you can expect to find no matter where you go on your Christmas travel vacation. If you are going somewhere that doesnt offer public activities, plan to bring your own.
Maybe you are spending Christmas in a mountain cabin, or on a ski slope. Bring the supplies for your kids to make decorations for your accommodations. If you can bring an artificial tree for them to decorate, or go to a local grocery store and get everything you need to make batches of Christmas cookies. Bring along your favorite Christmas movies to enjoy as well. Plan activities that you can enjoy with your kids year after year, regardless of where you are celebrating Christmas.
Christmas Gifts
If you choose to bring Santa along with you on your vacation, make it fun for the kids. Make sure they leave a note with some cookies at home letting Santa know of their temporary location so he can be sure to find them on Christmas Eve. If Santa will be unable to hop down a chimney, let the kids leave suggestions as to an alternative method for their delivery. And of course, dont forget to leave out some cookies at your Christmas travel vacation destination. Santa will be hungry after the extra trip from your house.
The other tricky issue about Christmas gifts for kids on a Christmas vacation is the logistics of getting gifts to your destination. Maybe Santa will accommodate your travel plans and leave smaller than normal packages, or maybe he leaves some with a note that there are still some more surprises waiting at home under the tree. Santa can easily adjust for your Christmas travel vacation and will ensure a great Christmas for your kids regardless of where they are.
The key to a Christmas travel vacation with kids is simply to make it as fun and whimsical as possible. Make your Christmas travel vacation a true Christmas adventure and create memories your kids will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Help answer the question about travel vacation destinations
Vacation destinations? I will be traveling with an 11 year old, so family oriented places are favored?I would like some suggestions from people regarding their favorite travel destinations. We can fly pretty much anywhere, but looking for ideas, prices, places, good memories as well as negative ones if you have them. We are not stuck on a tropical vacation either… Have considered Europe as a possibility.
We have traveled to Cancun, Mexico before as well as St. Croix, Virgin Islands and all over Florida. We preferred Cancun simply because there was more to do and go see AND the fact there were many family oriented ALL INCLUSIVE resorts to choose from.
Any ideas, suggestions and tips would be appreciated.
Dpower81… Great idea! I hadn't thought of Cape Cod, but would be an incredible vacation I think.
Thanks!
Nate… The Beaches Resorts seem really nice. I have considered them. Just wondering if there were good personal reviews. Thanks!
Gossip.. Yellowstone was another destination that I didn't consider, but would love to see! Thanks!

Charleston, SC is beautiful and full of history. You could start there and drive down to Savannah, GA.
Use the AAA website. They list points of interest along the way, so you can customize your trip. Here's their link:

I live in the Dallas area, but haven't come close to your drive so I don't have suggestions from my experience. Hope the AAA site helps. It's helped me on other trips I've planned.
go to the philippines in cebu or palawan. its really warm christmas their.x
I think that this is between you and your husband. If you are okay with it and your husband is also, go for it. I do think it might be worth taking one trip together, a honeymoon of sorts, especially since you guys are recently married and back together (again).
You might also want to think about making your trip an adults only trip because you should be able to cut loose like your husband without worrying about the children. Either way, enjoy it and don't read too much into what other people say because you know what works for you and your marriage.
A family resort that caters to children would be a great 4-day vacation. Here are a few suggestions that are driving distance from NYC: Skytop Lodge http://www.skytop.com/, Mohunk Mountain House http://www.mohonk.com/, Hotel Hershey http://www.thehotelhershey.com/index.php and Rocking Horse Ranch http://www.rhranch.com/.
Family resorts have kids clubs and babysitting available. Usually it includes all meals. This way, you get to have a vacation as well!
I love it. I took a trip last month, It was great. Barely Cost me anything.
No – jealousy is the worst most bitter feeling in the entire world. You don't want that monster invading you.
But really – don't bother envying all the travel your relatives and friends include in their life. There are much more productive and fun things to do with time than travelling the world. I know you may have heard a lot about the phenomenons and relaxation places around the world hold, but you can be just as fascinated by the view a block from your house or your own backyard. I advise you to ask your family for pictures to see, so you can actually visualize their trip – because that's really the only important thing in travel – memories. And they're right in the photographs.
Try not looking at you taking care of your mother negatively. I'm sure she's really happy to be with you, so you should deep down feel the same way. I know it's difficult and you'd rather be relaxing in the sun, but all good eventually comes to an end and your mother really needs your company now. Just imagine if you were her. I commend you for being so strong and congenial in taking care of her in the first place.
Don't worry about not spending Christmas Eve at your dream resort. The actual holiday is about being kindhearted and focusing on others and not yourself. Try alleviating your energy in a hot tub, with the thought of a tranquil beach in the midst. You don't have to be in the expensive setting to actually feel the mood the beach would give you. Believe me, I'm past your years and I haven't traveled out of the country yet my family goes all over the planet. Accept what you must and take it all in with a positive attitude. You'll feel much better if you do.
Best wishes and happy holidays.
woah I would take the pro tennis player
There is nothing more stressful then flying with a child. I can't imagine doing it with two small ones. I am with you. I think it is ridiculous how late flights are. I live in New York and I believe they are trying to pass a law (may have already passed) where they have to supply you with certain amenities if your flight leaves later than three (maybe its less) hours after it is scheduled.
I would not even think of flying in to Chicago. I have never had a good experience there. Canceled flights, delayed flights, baggage missing…
I guess I didn't really answer your question. But I just wanted you to know I can sympathize!!
Start with http://www.mousesavers.com It is probably the best online guide in getting value for your money. Know what you want to do, then go to disneyworld.disney.go.com to see the official list price. Then contact a travel agent you trust and compare prices. The AAA association offers discounts too. You could also try http://www.affordabledisney.com. A good all-around site is http://www.allearsnet.com or http://www.wdwinfo.com.
You need to do some research. Do you want to stay inside WDW? Do you want a hotel or condo or a house rental? How long are you staying. Will you have a car or are you relying on bus service. Will you go just to Disney or do you want to go to other attractions? Ticket prices at Disney vary with the length of your stay. The more days you buy. the "cost per day" declines rapidly. Do you want the food plan? Do you want to attend a character meal? Do you want to golf, horseback riding, parasailing, fishing? Do you want to go to a waterpark?
