I got the cheapest one they had ($1199+tax) and it's worked out great so far. I was a long time PC/Linux user and I wanted to get a Mac because I'd been running OSX on my PC desktop for about a year and the only thing I didn't like were problems associated with running OSX on a PC. So I got a Mac. And I love it.
Macs aren't more expensive. That's a myth that's been proven wrong over and over again. It's like complaining that a Lexus or a BMW are "too expensive." It's not that you pay a premium to own a Mac, it's just that they don't make cruddy Macs.
When you price out a PC with the same components as what you get in a Mac, you come out with a price that's maybe 200 less than the Mac would be. But you also have to include the little things, like the LED backlit screen. The very nice built-in camera, the multi-touch trackpad, and the backlit keyboard. On top of that, you get a lot of really great software included with your Mac.
The most recent Microsoft commercials (where people are off buying computers and say stupid ignorant stuff about Macs like, "they sure are expensive!") are ironic in many ways. For instance, Microsoft, a software company that charges over 300 dollars for the only un-crippled version of their flagship operating system, doesn't even approach the value of the software on Macs. Furthermore, the company that made those commercials uses primarily Macs. So there's good chance that the "anti-Mac" commercials were made using Mac computers [1].
Also, consider this. Geek Squad will charge you $100 [2] to "tune-up" your PC before (or after) you buy it. Why on Earth should you need to "fix" a PC before you even buy it?! Because PCs come loaded with crap you don't need that slows it down. This crap is on there because companies pay manufacturers to include it on new PCs. That's part of the reason PCs "cost less" than Macs. Because they come with trashy advertising that you have to either spend time or money (or both) removing to get your computer working at full speed. What a joke.
I opened my Mac and it was running perfectly. It had all the software I needed already installed. Anything I didn't need wasn't slowing anything down. And it is all high quality. Not based on who will pay the most money to have their software included with every new Mac, but by who makes the best software.
Consider all that when you think about whether you're really paying "extra" to get a Mac.

Most indie band stuff can't be found illegally anyway. Most of the warez stuff are overpaid music, and a huge chunk goes to RIAA and studios, who don't deserve it.
BTW, the best way to support a band, even indie ones, is to attend their concert.
Bands hardly earn anything. Sherwood once released their EP songs for free on the internet. So does many other bands. If they actually lose that much when people obtain their songs for free, they would not have been able to done that.

1) Yes. If you can get an Access Point for your PSP to have internet, and have set Remote Play up correctly, then you can use the PS3's web browser to surf the web.
2) The point of remote is that you can access your Photos, Music, Videos and view friends from somewhere else in the world. It's a way of entertaining yourself.
2.1) You can't play any PS3 games on the PSP. You can some PSP games on the PS3 though. Nothing will change with the PSP-GO. It uses the same OS as the current PSP-3000.
3) Life at PlayStation contributes to helping a university complete their research on something. You can use it to see the news, the weather – all live. NO ONE can get into your PS3 with Life At PlayStation. It isn't possible.
4) On some sites, you can download videos. You can try and download videos on the PS3 and it will save it AUTOMATICALLY to a folder named something. e.g: "July 2009…" et.

6) You can't connect it a computer. You can connect it to a computer moniter though with a VGA to HDMI convertor.
7)You can swap the PS3's HDD for a bigger HDD with more space. This space allows you to store more video, pictures and music. It will also let you save more game data.
Upgrading to a 40GB HDD will NOT give you backwards. Backwards compatility is all in the Hardware. The PS3 uses software emulation to play PS2 games. It won't come in the HDD.
9) You can download Yellow Dog Linux to install on the PS3. Doing this will erase your PS3 OS.
