Spring Break 2008 will most likely continue the trend we have seen over the past two years, a move to a more affordable spring break vacation. No longer does Cancun monopolize the spring break market. College spring break students have grown tired of the overpriced packages to Cancun. For years, travel agencies have inflated their Cancun packages because they knew the average college student would be willing to pay top dollar for a spring break trip to Cancun. Those days are over. The past two years have seen shift to other spring break destinations. The Bahamas have become extremely popular. The April 2006 issue of Travel Magazine showed that Bahamas spring break packages were now just as popular as Cancun spring break packages. Studies show college spring break students want a cheap spring break package. A Bahamas package can often be half the price of a Cancun package. Spring break cruises to the Bahamas are typically the cheapest route to take. Eliminating the flight portion of any spring break vacation will usually cut the price in half. Choosing spring break cruises instead of a flight package is often the best way to do this. If you live in the U.S. and want to travel to Cancun, a flight package is really your only option unless you drive. It is possible to fly or cruise to the Bahamas. Grand Bahamas (Freeport and Port Lucaya) is less than 35 miles from Florida. Cruises are very inexpensive from there, and they depart from several different ports on the coast.
It is important to note that Bahamas spring break package prices will most likely see an increase within the next few years due to demand. College spring break students are booking earlier every year so they can get a room at the more popular hotels. Most agencies are sold out at all hotels by December 1st each year. Bookings for spring break trips typically start around the second week of September each year.

Help answer the question about spring break vacation destinations
Cheap Spring Break Vacation Ideas in the U.S.??I'm in college and my boyfriend and I might be going on a little spring vacation. Our break is March 3-9 (2008). We're in Chicago want to stay in the US. I don't want anywhere tropical, I would really like a lake/riverside cabin/cottage but the water part isn't really necessary. We're pretty set on driving to the destination, so somewhere that isn't more than a 12-14 hour drive. Preferably places that are inexpensive (keep in mind we're college students..) but still nice.
Thanks!

In Acapulco its really the whole month of March. The third week is the Americans and is one of the top tourist dollar weeks of the year. The beach has live bands and they go all out.
Traffic on the Costera is pretty bad. Its not too awful for this 41 year old man though. I do avoid the costera traffic ! As far as the beach the kids really stay on the beach that that is in front of thier Hotel. To be honest if you walk the whole beach line you will only see 3 or 4 hotels with kids parting in front. Its really not too bad. Some small groups grab drinks and take a stroll around the beach but its fine.
When you look around the beach you will see small hord's of kids in front of 3 or 4 hotels so I just avoid that section. Not hard as the bay and beaches are pretty big.
When I want to see some partying and music I stroll up to the small stretch that has the stage and kick back under a palm tree and enjoy.
They really are pretty tame.
Cancun is INSANE. I call it Gringoville as there are always too many Americans and for spring break – Not Me ! From what you wrote – Cancun is NOT for you and I think youll enjoy Acapulco.
Link over to me and I will help any way I can. Lots of other things to do that only people like me know about. 30 mins north is Pie de la Cuesta. Deserted huge beach that has some 20 foot waves. Not a sole to be seen and the little family hotels are paradise and cheap. Google Pie de la Cuesta. You tube also has some stuff.
I know many others !
I know this is probably a stretch for you, but check out South Africa. The weather is great in feb.,mar, and april. Beaches, pubs, nightclubs all you could ask for and it is cheap.Hotels,B&B,rates30 to90 american. Your biggest cost would be air fare. Check it out.
I would suggest a fun "eco" destination. Costa Rica is an obvious winner in this category, but Nicaragua can be extremely rewarding, and there are a lot of fun options in Mexico that can save you some money (Copper Canyon train ride, exploring Mayan ruins in the Yucatan, white water rafting in Veracruz, etc.)
Have fun!
