Diabetes is a disease that affects the blood’s sugar levels creating a higher amount than the body can manage with its own, natural insulin. Therefore, most often times, it must be maintained with medication. But in addition to prescription medication, exercise and eating habits play a huge role in maintaining a healthy blood sugar level. A specific, healthy eating diet plan must be incorporated to a diabetic lifestyle – no ifs, ands or buts about it.
For the majority of people with diabetes, a healthy eating diet plan includes several, smaller meals throughout the day on a more condensed, periodic basis in order to help in successfully maintaining sugar and glucose levels. And because a diabetic is eating more often, it’s imperative that those meals consist of good food choices. Let’s take a look at some tips for healthy eating habits in this realm.
Choose foods with lower fat contents including the use of non-stick sprays when cooking instead of oil as often as possible.
Stay away from fruit juices and other beverages that contain high fructose levels including naturally sweetened drinks.
Decrease salt intake and salty foods like pickles, packaged soups and processed meats.
Read the food labels on prepared products before ingesting because even something seemingly harmless can pose a risk.
There is actually a food pyramid designed specifically for people with diabetes. And guess what it’s called? The Diabetes Food Pyramid! It’s an exceptional guideline for what and how much to eat that anyone with this disease should be aware of and utilizing every day. It’s broken down into the same basic categories as the regular food pyramid, but the recommend serving sizes are different as are the specific, coordinating foods. Following is an overview of the Diabetes Food Pyramid with required serving amounts:
Grain, Beans and Starchy Vegetables – 6 or more servings per day
Choose whole-grain and whole-wheat breads and flours over the white variety for baking and eating. Beans are a great source of fiber as well as low in sugar. Pretzels and low-fat crackers are perfect choices for snacking and if they’re the lower-salt varieties, even better.
Fruit – 2 to 4 servings daily
Citrus fruits are the best for diabetics. Eat whole fruits in their natural state over the canned assortments because aside from having less sugar, they also contain more fiber. If choosing the canned, frozen or juice variety, always pick those that do not contain added sweeteners or syrups.
Vegetables – 3 to 5 servings a day
Dark green and deep yellow vegetables are the best way to go. Eat freshly prepared vegetables whenever possible. If choosing the prepared variety, pick those are made without the addition of sauces and/or salt.
Milk and Dairy – 2 to 3 serving every day
Drink low or non-fat milk. Choose only low-fat yogurt made with artificial sweeteners.
Meat, Poultry, Fish – 2 to 3 servings daily
Always choose leaner cuts of red meat and trim all fat before preparing. Consume more pork, fish and chicken – remove the skin before cooking. Bake, broil, grill or roast instead of frying.
Fat – limit fat intake, specifically trans and saturated.
By always taking prescribed medications, sticking to a fitness routine and healthy eating diet plan, successful management of diabetes will be almost guaranteed. Always consult a physician before starting any new lifestyle routine.

It sucks…especially the Jet lag, and the cup of coffee doesn’t do the body justice either. Thank you for the info…I think everyone should strive and eat healthier.
What you need to do is ditch this Anne Collins thing and go to a weight loss spa. I went to Fitness Ridge Weight Loss Spa in St. George, UT and lost 34 pounds in 4 weeks. Great hiking and terrific staff.
Stop wasting your time with this Anne Collins stuff.

thanks
You haven't established a diagnosis of diabetes yet. I would do that first. Was your blood sugar 186 when you were fasting? If so, yes, that is high. However, if you had eaten a few hours earlier, etc then obviously that result means nothing.
You need to get a diagnosis first. Diabetes is not something you can manage w/o a doctor. If you do have it, they will figure out what type (1 or 2) and give you a management plan.
Yes, stay on the healthy diet, exercise regularly, and keep your weight in the ideal range according to a reputable BMI calculator. I always recommend that potential diabetics treat themselves as if they are diabetic and stick to a low fat, low carb diet. You might want to consider limiting or eliminating dairy products from your diet also. The more I read, the more it seems to be an integral part of the type two diabetic equation. In fact, the less dairy I take in, the lower my fasting blood sugar is.
Testing once a year should be sufficient. Type two diabetes onset is very gradual.
People with diabetes can eat anything they want.
Yes, there are some choices that are better than others.
It's not the sugar to worry about, it's the carbs. We all need carbs and they are the only thing that raises blood sugar.
Get yourself a book with nutritional information and count carbs. Ask your Bf how many carbs he should eat each meal.
You don't need to use artificial sugar in baking. It still has the carbs and generally tastes like garbage.
If you bake cookies, he should only have a small portion of carbs with his meal to make room for the cookies.
For instance :
Baked Chicken [ 0 carbs ]
Baked potato [30 carbs ]
green beans [about 5 carbs in a 1/2 cup serving ]
2 Rolls [ 60 carbs ]
That is a bit high.
If you change the two rolls into one, he still has room for cookies.
It's all a trade off.
Perhaps you should both go to a dietitian to learn what is best.
Good luck.
Eat cucumbers with Veganaise which is an organic dressing that is a better alternative to mayonaisse. I used to eat cucumbers a lot in high school and I went from a size 11 to size 3 within a year and it also helped that I did a 100 jumping jacks almost every day along with eating cucumbers as a snack.

I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.
Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.
First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising…
This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.
However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.
Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.
eat like 5 or six small meals a day to raise your metabolic rate
and you can't completely remove fat from your diet you body will then have a lower ability to break down fat it's all about balance
Thank you!
I'm a type 2 diabetic and use to weigh over 200 lbs. I'm only 5'2'', so that was a lot of weight. I then started The Biggest Looser diet back in September, and now weigh 162lbs. I started walking only 1/2 mile or riding my bike a couple of miles. Now I either walk between 3 to 5 miles a day or I ride my bike an average of 10 miles a day. Today I walked and rode because the weather is so nice. I eat 6 times a day, which is great because you never get too hungry. This diet and exercise is just wonderful. You can join on line for $20 a month. Just go to The biggest Looser Club. Oh, my blood sugar use to be pretty high, but now is under 100, so In April I go for a check-up and hope to get off my diabetic meds.
