I help people all of the time with different problems when it comes to their workouts (and even life sometimes). Many of those times, these distinct problems are attributed to a much larger situation. I am a HUGE believer of getting to the source of a problem and NOT just treating symptoms.
Treating symptoms never lets the person understand what is actually going on and can be very self defeating. Imagine for a minute that you are allergic to peanut butter. Now, you love peanut butter so you get a medicine to let you eat peanut butter to your heart’s content.
Of course, the medicine costs money and carries all sorts of side effects. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just give up peanut butter? After all, it’s the peanut butter that is the source of your problems. Taking the medicine is just an unnecessary step.
So, the best thing to do in most instances revolves around the source of a problem. But, for people trying to get in better shape, what are the primary problem sources? What exercise tips prove to really pay off?
Honestly, most of the underlying problems involve psychology and the way people perceive things. The leftover problems stem from either overflowing or faulty information.
Today, I want to go over motivation and why it might not necessarily be the 1st thing to focus on when beginning a new program.
Follow me here. (I’ll get to the correlation at the end)
I think most people can relate to this.
You have an underperforming employee. Generally speaking, underperforming employees tend to fall into two categories — those that need more training and those that have significant training but need to be motivated (I usually let these people go by the way as they tend to be a drain on the team).
Most of the time, an underperforming person gets lumped into the “I need motivation” category prematurely. However, looking further, we can see that our employee really just needs more training to ensure more confidence.
But, what do we do?
We say, “Oh, you just need to be more motivated” or “come on, just think about how much money you can make.”
Then, our “motivated” individual goes out, does a crappy job, gets discouraged, and then falls back into the same trap as before. It’s a vicious cycle. (By the way, if you have an employee like this, chances are they need more training. It’s a clear sign that you haven’t been doing YOUR job, instead of them not doing theirs).
Think about it this way, if you have an idiot and you motivate them you don’t get a lean, mean, employee: you’ve got yourself a motivated idiot! Imagine what kind of destructive power that can have.
I’ve digressed a little. What does this have to do with working out?
A LOT!
If you are doing all of the wrong things and you get more motivated (i.e. work harder, more weight, reps, intensity), you are just going to trash your body, period.
Think about the motivated idiot.
Now, I’m not saying to get into information overload by any means. The easiest thing to do would be to grab a magazine or two from the grocery store and start with a few of the workouts inside. That way, you don’t have to worry about your plan and can actually GET MOTIVATED with the right information.
This is very important.
Now, if this does not sound appealing, put something together yourself and get it critiqued by a qualified individual before you start. You might have a great majority of it right and realize drastic improvements with a few small tweaks.
Search out reputable sources (don’t “diet” Google) and follow their advice.
**IMPORTANT**
Do not pick 15 people to follow and mash all of their teachings together. Pick one and follow him/her only. When you try to put more than one system together, you not only diffuse the power of the system, you put yourself into potential information overload from all of the different “exercise tips”.
Again, do some research and find one person to focus on. You’ll see quicker results from your simple approach.
REMEMBER! Information overload = no results.
Moral of the story, get equipped with the right information from a singular source…
..and don’t be a motivated idiot.

Brad Howard’s Fat Loss Black Book blows the doors off of all the fat loss misinformation being propagated today…
if you eat right and dont exercise its possible to lose weight. But you will not lose nearly as much weight as if you both eat right and exercise
I wish I was a cheese puff im a chicken
well you have already gotten past that point to where you have made it a habit, a daily part of your life which for me was the hardest. Ive been working out for a while now and in the last 2 years have lost 50lbs, feel great, look great, and for me that's all the motivation i need to continue. Results are a great motivation, people noticing your body changing and to acknowledge the hard work you put into it. I'm trying to pack on the muscle now and its hard work but its fun. I hope you are having fun in the gym and good luck to you…stay motivated =)
YOU’RE GONNA BE A CHEESE PUFF!! Lmao
I know what you mean! its just that sacrifice you gotta make for a healthy life style, and a good lookin body~ : )
Hey I don’t mean to insult, but she looks fat!
Yeah right you obviously don’t know what fat looks like.
That is funny….
if i eat the foods listed, and not work out would i lose weight?
i had the exact same problem
evenings are very tempting to over eat or indulge as your home and not as busy.
i have just started a texting buddy and we email each other our meal plans every night and when we feel like were going to binge we text each other for support.
you can also try blogging on some sites http://fitday.com and you can talk about your feelings and emotions towards food
this is also great because none of your family will know
good luck
Usually losing weight is simple numbers. You need to know your basic metabolic rate (BMR). Once you know your BMR then you can design a diet lower in calories than your BMR.
But…. it is not always that simple. You could also have metabolic anomalies or even hormone irregularities that can make losing weight virtually impossible.
Start with the simple stuff. Calculate your BMR right here http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ then alter your diet if necessary.
Now, if you don't see results after that you may look into the hormonal or metabolic areas. Also make sure you are being realistic, and that you do have weight to use. Don't forget… celebrities use tons of drugs and have personal trainers! We should all be so lucky
I have been doing the crossfit workouts and they have shredded my body big time (removed my body fat). They are pretty tough, but the results are quick!
give them a try and see what you think. I usually do the WOD's

Also to tone muscle (obviously you want a little muscle tone which is very sexy when done right) make sure you are getting plenty of protein to aid in recovery and building of new muscle tissue
Here is a link for protein

You should be getting treatment for your underactive thyroid…if not go and see the doctor and ask why not!
Look at the GI Diet by Rick Gallop. Its easy to use and will be easy to fit into your routine as a busy mum. You will lose well with it (I have lost 5 stone in 6 months) but 4 stone by May is a bit of a high expectation. I do walking for my exercise, I havnt yet joined a gym and I dont have any exercise equipment at home. Be strict with yourself, choose a time of day when things are quieter and do as much as you can. start low and work up sensibly otherwise you will ache and not continue with it.
Motivation is difficult, it will vary for each person. Mine is clothes. Being very overweight I have never had a good selection of clothes. My friend works in a clothes shop and gets a big discount and has got me new clothes as I have lost weight. When I get into the clothes she gets me a new lot and will get one "special" outfit which she knows I will really like. That one outfit is my motivation to get down to that size. I am presently working towards a beautiful faux suede soft green skirt suit
I also have the motivation to keep my blood sugar under control (being diabetic).
Good luck, I hope what I have said will help you in some small way;
Getting several inexpensive full length mirrors and placing them around the house, and one in the kitchen, helps a bit. Also try planning your day with a schedule and give yourself a fun exercise to do and leave time for a warm up and cool down. Maybe get a buddy to work out with you at a gym or ymca (but one that's going to help you out). Having a friend there to motivate you and you to motivate them will help a lot. You can also try putting pictures or magazine clippings around the room in your house that you work out in. Things that will motivate you like clothes you want to fit into or somewhere you want to go or even a new baby that you'll want to be able to keep up with. Hope it helps. Good luck!
what if i eat alot of fruit and 1 meal a day?
look at a pic of ur fav fit celeb.. as stupid as it sounds, i would always watch girl next door because kendra has the best body ever.
Weigh yourself EVERYDAY (: i know this may be contrary to everything you thought youve ever known lol but this actually keeps you motivated. If you lose 1 pound today and gaini 2 pounds tommorrow youre 2x as motivated to lose 3 pounds the next day.
To build muscle on your ab/stomach area, try walking around at work or school or wherever with your gut clenched, like youre holding your breath without sucking in air. Dont believe what you may hear about not doing crunches and situps because it builds muscl over the fat, but actaully muscle burns at least 2x more fat than fat alone does. YOURE ABS WILL BE SORE FOR A WHILE LOL but its worth it.
Drink lots of water. Whenever you start to crave somewthing sweet, get a big glass of water instead. While youre downing that, youll probably forget about that twinkie you were in the mood for.
Before you eat anything, think 'would the highschool-skinny-me eat that?'. If the answer is no, dont eat it. Try to picture you in that shape again.
If you have a pet, kick around a soccor ball or throw a tennis ball, and race him to it. If youre dogless, call up some buddies of yours and askem to go to the park and play some soccor or throw the ol pigskin around. It doesnt even FEEL like burning calories when your playinig!
Another thing Ive heard of, for avoiding carby foods is to think of them as something disguisting. Before you think about digging into that oily, buttery, starchy, pasta, think of it as a forkful of worms. Appetising, right?
Have you ever seen that show, the Bisggest Loser? Well do it with one of your friends or a family member. See who can lose the most weight in a month or two and wager a new outfit or $100 dollars per person participating.
