I understand the economy is in the crapper but I still getting asked questions all of the time about which travel bag someone should purchase! Somebody keeps going somewhere! So I would like to address in this article is the difference between a soft golf cover and a hard case for your golf clubs as well as which one is right for you.
First, we will talk about a soft travel cover. As it sounds, this type of travel bag is made of a material such as canvas. Being made of canvas, the soft travel cover is usually less expensive and does not provide as much protection as other travel bag options. A soft travel cover is good if you are planning golf tips in which you will be driving by car or bus to your destination. This way you can pack all of your golf gear in one spot and have it ready to go on the scheduled day of play. These bags also break down and are easy to store while on your trip or at home.
Some soft travel bags are made of nylon and have padding built inside of the travel bag itself. Many of the manufacturers also add internal pockets to these bags which allow you to pack your golf shoes and other accessories in your travel bag. In addition, these bags have wheels to make it easier to maneuver around the airport or hotel.
A golf hard case is as it sounds. It is a case that you place your lightweight carry stand golf bag or golf cart bag into the hard case for their security and it provides the highest amount of protection. Typically, with a hard case, you will not have extra space to pack clothes or golf accessories.
Since a hard golf travel case provides the most protection for your golf clubs, hard cases are a smart choice for the golfer who flies to the majority of your golf vacation spots. When it comes to storage at home or on the road, hard cases take up more room than other styles. Hard golf cases might not make as much sense as hybrids or soft covers if you do not fly to many of your golf vacations.
I would not be doing my job writing this article if I did not tell you that if you fly on one airline the majority of the time, it would be wise to check with them prior to your purchase about size and weight restrictions of a golf travel bag. As you know, the policies are different with each airline. Oftentimes, airlines will cover any damage incurred when your clubs are in a hard golf case. You also must keep in mind that the bulk of a hard golf case also makes it difficult to fit into the trunk of many rental cars.
So the big question becomes which one is right for you? The answer to this question should be much clearer to you now since you are armed with this information. Let me also close by stating as with anything these days, your decision may hinge on what type of budget you have as you can spend as little or as much as you want as well as the type of traveling that you are planning to do in the future.

Best take a pack that is smaller than you think you need, you will always bring to much.
A backpack is getting more heavy during a journey, and you will walk with it more than you would expect.
A well known cliche is: Bring half the gear and double the money you think you need.
When you have walked half an hour with you pack you know why they tell you that.
You are the only one that can work out which brand is best for you, and how big a pack you need.
Go to a store with many packs and try several.
You get the best impression if you bring something heavy, like a bag of potatoes, to test the bag with, but nearly nobody will actually do that.
Since I have packs that have wheels too, I have found the best for a longer travel. For stairs, stations and so on I use it as back pack, when going for a longer walk it goes on its wheels.
And whatever you do, do not buy one of the packs with a day pack that zips on top of the big pack, nobody uses the zip-on option while traveling, as the day pack is always much to heavy, and the packs are almost all terrible to carry, specially when you use the small pack on your belly.
