Indie music is shit. Sung by talentless musicians with repetitive poor melodies, stupid pretentious monotonous working class accents and no soul whatsoever. Soon this awful ‘rock’ music will be gone with the new decade and hopefully some real musicians with soul will appear again like before the 2000s
to say the truth not really everyone wants to hear peeps on record labels all of the time some of us want to hear some of the unsigned bands with there own original sound yes its repetitive but most more famous bands and artists are too example: JUST ABOUT ALL RAP MUSIC
ralppi1 you are so fuckin stupid. and all other people that say that indie means unsigned bands and shit. indie is a rock genre you stupid fucks! search for indie rock and you’ll see. google is your friend douchebags
because it sounds good, makes me feel good and has true meaning and emotion behind it. “Indie” has absolutely NOTHING to do with how many people listen to it. You make a good point, but don’t be so shallow about the subject
There is lots of Indie music available on both
http://www.cduniverse.com and http://www.tower.com.
International shipping varies, but I definitely would recommend shipping through a forwarding company. It is safer than depending on a friend or relative. I have used a company called Bongo International for over a year now. For reference: their website is http://www.bongous.com. Plus, they will combine from numerous sites into 1 box for free.
Here is the link for transit times, restrictions, etc. to China through Bongo:

Rock on!
I don't have answers for all of your questions but I do believe that Canada AND the rest of the world, need better publications for indie bands.
Usually I buy SPIN magazine which promotes a lot of indie bands, but then as you go through the pages, they always slip some rap or hip hop in there and it's very annoying…they actually had Beyonce on the cover. YUCK.
Anyway…I do strongly believe that we need a Rolling Stonesque magazine that dedicates all it's pages to music, and be it indie bands at that. No slip-ins!
No, I did never visit soundline.ca I never even heard of it.
I think indie bands are becoming very strong this year, hopefully, they'll take over soon.
I think you should keep being as optimistic and you can, a positive attitude will take you anywhere! Keep strong! Work hard! And let me know when your magazine is back out.
Cheers!

Projectplaylist.com
MySpace
YouTube
or you can go to Xanga.com and search for some music.
Enjoy indie music : )
Then come to youtube . com / machiinate for some of the indie best mixes to come !!
panda bear. woot, woot.
myspace is a good start. you also have the option of friendster, hi5, etc, etc which can be set up with a link back to your (original) my space page. People are especially all over youtube, however, there is also break.com etc. There are so many places that you can present your work nowadays that if is is worth its salt and you have a good image (down side of presentability) that you might either get noticed by the right person, or by enough people that could increase your chances. Also, I would say don't wait on the internet, there are plenty of events that beg for live artists of any kind, search these out and request you be put on the billing. Oh and if you make it big, please consider me to be your manager ;P!
I know plenty; you just have to find and listen to a ton of college radio, and go watch a buttload of live shows. Oh, and make sure you drink really expensive beer and smoke Canadian cigs if you are hobnobbing with other indie nerds.
haha
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) is better I think

Alternative Press is good, but they somewhat cater to a younger crowd.
WonkaVision is good, but they devote a lot of space to Punk. There is some stuff on other topics, but its about 50% punk, 50% everything else
Magnet is really good, and it seems to cover a lot of current Indie rock stuff. It's quarterly though, so they only go to print 4 times/year.

Indie music was originally music that was produced independently. Now, however, times have changed and it commonly refers to music that has a similar sound to those few bands that were “indie” (as the original meaning suggests). Also, Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party are both bands that are borderline indie. And finally, what difference does it make? I like music, and a lot of it tends to be indie. But I don’t like it just cause it’s cool. I don’t ONLY like indie, and, unlike you, I like music
