AIDS Orphan Rising

In many countries of the world, AIDS is assuming the status of an epidemic, killing thousands of people each year. While the victims of AIDS and their families suffer from the emotional trauma associated with terminal illness and death, AIDS is taking over humanity in another terrifying way: leaving young children orphan and completely on their own. In her latest book AIDS Orphans Rising: What You Should Know and What You Can Do To Help Them Succeed (Loving Healing Press, December 2007), Sister Mary Elizabeth Lloyd draws the attention of her readers to a terrifying fact: every 14 seconds, a child headed household is formed somewhere in the world.

A child headed household, or CHH, is a household headed by a child due to the death of both his/her parents, leaving him/her in charge of the younger siblings and with the question ‘how to survive?’ While these children have developed some coping strategies (like menial labor, selling grains along roads, and technical work etc.), many of them are too young to do any work and are left to begging or dependency on others. Since the governments in most of their countries are poor, these children need help from grown ups to survive and develop into functional members of their society. Sister Mary Elizabeth’s book tells us how to help the orphans of AIDS.

AIDS Orphans Rising carries a complete list of sources that are helping these poor children. Financial aid, donations, international adoption, distant adoption, and moral support are the main types of help we can offer these children and make a difference in their lives. AIDS is preying on humanity by depriving human children of their parents and throwing them into the struggle for survival. In AIS Orphans Rising, Sister Mary Elizabeth calls all caring people to come forward and protect our young ones from the fatal blows of AIDS. This book is a major step in that direction.
