A Hop, a Skip and a Puddle Jump to Paradise Puerto Plata, The Northern Coast Jewel of the Dominican Republic
Karen Holly Berliner (The first in a series on this destination)
New Yorkers work hard and we play hard too. For us then, nothing compares with the chance to beat Father Time in enjoying Mother Nature. Watch us frantically google and troll for nearby tropical destinations, tightly clenching our Bain du Soleil and juicy paperbacks in the morning, with the hopes to be working on our tan lines beachside by lunchtime. For most New Yorkers, the R &R clock starts only when we've unpacked our bags and burrowed a virgin big toe into the warm sifted sand.
Florida and Puerto Rico among many other well traveled destinations have long enjoyed the exclusive accolades of old reliability for New Yorkers. They have historically offered the no brainer quick tropical escapes from the grueling winter cold, no questions asked.

In the meanwhile, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic with a quiet untapped humility, has been " always the bridesmaid, never the bride", sitting patiently in the background, waiting its long overdue turn to wow us with their own brand of charm, and yes finally too, get to spoil us rotten.

Enter the new and exciting direct flight to Puerto Plata offered by Jet Blue Airways. The operation of this new flight from New York-JFK Airport to Puerto Plata will open that new door for us. JetBlue Airways is currently Puerto Plata's first low-fare airline, and the only carrier to provide nonstop, daily year-round service to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK)
Back in January of this year, I had the privilege of flying on JetBlue's inaugural direct flight to Puerto Plata.
I arrived a skeptic and departed a spoiled brat.
Stay tuned for my next piece to read about why!!
